Our Beidou (or Bei Dou Yi Hao) is incredibly smooth and mellow with a thick tea body. The taste is sweet with fruit and floral notes pitched against a spicy body. A refreshing and uplifting tea.

The rock rhythm experienced drinking this tea is distinguishable and demonstrates the Chen family’s craftmanship to rock oolong production.

This is the first time we have introduced Beidou, literally translated to North Star, to our tea catalogue. I have been getting to know this tea over the past couple of years and have fallen in love with it. I chose this tea over the popular and always tasty blended Da Hong Pao this year due to Beidou’s superb drinking experience.

Origin: Shui lian dong in the national park of Wuyi Shan, Fujian province, China

Flavour profile: Sweet | Fruit | Floral

Processing highlights: 3 times medium roast. Last roasted in December 2022. The temperature of the fire is not too high to retain the floral aroma.

Harvest: 01.05.2022

Cultivar: Beidou

Minbei oolongs grow North of the Min River in the Fujian province. Yan Cha or “rock teas” is the name that represents Wuyi Shan teas grown in this territory. Their unique terroir contributes to their “yan yun” or rock rhyme that Wuyi oolongs are famed for.

Elevation: 400-500m

Our Beidou has a good structure in the tea liquor that is smooth and incredibly well-balanced. Flavours reminiscent of chocolate, strawberry, passionfruit and spice with floral tones. This liquor leaves a creaminess in the mouth and a finish that is sweet and long.

Leaf appearance: Uniform brown-black leaves rolled strip style

Aroma: Highly aromatic with notes of cacao, spice and strawberry

Liquor colour: Brilliant amber
