A beautiful handcrafted black tea that is smooth and rounded with a deliciously thick body. Delicately floral, with prominent notes of baked peach and honey leave a long lasting sweet finish.
This new addition to our collection of ever expanding delightful and interesting black teas, Bai Ye Guangdong black, has become my personal favourite black tea from this region. We first introduced this style of tea last year with Honey Orchid Phoenix Red produced from the mi lan xiang cultivar.
This expands my interest in black teas that are produced using cultivars of tea plants typically reserved for oolong production. The result from using the bai ye cultivar is a thick liquor that is juicy and delicious.

Processing highlights: Bai ye or ‘white tip’ cultivar is favoured in Chazhou for the production of the dan congs. This early harvested tea was plucked from bushes approximately 80 years of age. Plucked and sorted by hand this tea has been produced as a black tea drawing on the experience within the family of black tea production in Wuyishan and traditional charcoal baking.

The original Dan Cong plants were propagated from seed over 700 years ago in the Phoenix Mountains (Feng Huang Shan) area. These have been harvested and processed individually since this time, hence, the name Dan Cong or single bush. The tea makers noted differences in flavours and aromas from each of the plants and thus begun a fine example of selective breeding as each plant was given the name of the fragrance they represented.
