Produced in Tong Mu Guan from the Wuyi Cai Cha (Qizhong) cultivar this is a fine tea. As this tea mellows (ages) it produces a thick sticky liquor that is sweet and creamy with notes of dark chocolate, sugarcane and cherry.

We are so very pleased to have this exquisite and authentic Tong Mu Jin Jun Mei in our possession and available in very limited quantity to our customers. For those that know a thing or two about lapsang souchong or Jin Jun Mei you would understand how difficult it is to source an authentic version of this tea. After 3 years of building relationships and knowledge with our tea maker we are delighted she is happy to share a small quantity of this beautiful tea.

Origin: Tong Mu Guan, Fujian, China

Flavour profile: Medium bodied | Dark Chocolate | Sugarcane

Processing highlights: Jin Jun Mei is harvested from the finest young spring buds resulting in the large number of golden tips. The tea bushses are estimated to be approximately 80 years old. Our Jin Jun Mei is oxidised by placing the buds in a basket with a wet cloth placed over the top. The baskets are placed in a warm room and slowly oxidised over a period of 8-10 hours. The tea is subjected to a light baking to dry and finish the tea.

Grown and produced in Tong Mu village located in the Wuyi Mountain region where this style of tea originated. Harvested from spring-fed wild tea trees, the tea bushes are scattered throughout the forest. It is labour intensive, requiring skilled pickers to identify and pluck to a consistent standard.

Elevation: 1,200m

Due to its scarcity outside of China do take the time to drink it plain, on its own. Savor and appreciate the tea liquor, its beautiful mouthfeel and lovely lingering sugary aftertaste. It has a wonderful strength to it and will produce a number of subsequent infusions using the Eastern method (gong fu cha) of brewing.

Leaf appearance: The buds display an even black-brown colour, with an abundance of golden tips

Aroma: Jin Jun Mei has a sweet aroma of sweet potato, stone fruit, malt and a hint of rose

Liquor colour: Brilliant orange-red with a golden rim
