A highly aromatic black tea that is beautifully presented with layers of of black and gold buds and leaves. This tea produces a sweet, floral liquor that has long honey-like finish.

This tea was awarded the Origin Tea - Myanmar winner at the World Tea Expo 2024

I was fortunate to taste this tea at the World Tea Expo when I attended the Myanmar Tea Association's tea tasting hosted by Joyce Maina, Founder of Cambridge Tea Consultancy. It was one of those moments where I knew it was something special to share with you. As little tea is exported from Myanmar, a lessor known tea growing region, I caught up with Joyce to learn more over in Tealosophy.

Origin: Shan State, Myanmar

Flavour profile: Sweet | Floral | Honey

Processing highlights: A specialty whole leaf black tea. The tea leaves are grown in the Flower District surrounded by honey production. This unique terroir is imparted into the tea.

Harvest: Spring

Cultivar:

Plucking standard: bud & 1-2 leaves

Tea Master: Mr. Seng

Environmental and climatic conditions in Myanmar are quite advantageous for tea growing. Good quality rainfall that is well distributed throughout the year, relative humidity of around 80% (no lower than 40%) and temperatures between 13⁰C and 30⁰C allow for the tea plant to thrive. The Shan state shares a border with China.

Elevation:

Myanmar Black Gold Tea is wonderfully smooth and perfectly balanced honey-like sweetness. It is accompanied by a floral aroma and a long creamy finish on the palate.

This delicious black tea is perfect for enjoying on its own. It also makes a great pairing with a classic afternoon tea assortment.

Leaf appearance: A stunning layering of gold tipped buds and black leaves.

Aroma: A delightful sweet syrupy aroma of floral honey.

Liquor colour: Brilliant gold-red colour with a lustrous golden rim.
