Origin: Lumbini Valley, Ruhuna, Sri Lanka

Flavour profile: Medium-bodied | Spice | Wood

Processing highlights: Lumbini Tea Valley produce this tea using an orthodox manufacturing process. They select immature, undamaged green leaf before commencing the withering process. Rolling finalises the enzymatic breakdown of the withered leaf allowing oxidation to commence. The leaf is processed to ensure consistent, controlled oxidation occurs. Once completed, drying the tea leaves in a dryer to ensure moisture content drops below 3% for shelf stability. The teas are quality reviewed and graded according to their size, weight and shape. We have selected OP1 grade.

Harvest: October 2022

The Ruhuna tea growing region comprises vast sub regions from coastal plains to the Southern edge of Sinharaja Rain Forest. The soil, combined with the low elevation, causes the tea-bush to grow rapidly, producing a long, beautiful leaf.

Elevation: 450m

Lumbini Tea Valley Ceylon is a medium-bodied black tea with delicate spicy and woodsy notes with the characteristic malty flavour. This tea leaves a rounded fullness on the palate and a lingering sweetness.

Leaf appearance: Full lengths of brown-black thin twisted lengths resembling stings

Aroma: A well-balanced fragrance of spice, oak and malt

Liquor colour: Brilliant orange-red

Brewing & Storage

Store in an airtight container away from light, heat and moisture.

Lumbini Tea Valley Ceylon can be enjoyed on its own but will also hold up well to the addition of milk and sugar. A longer brew time is recommended if adding milk.
