We are so fortunate to continue adding exceptional and delicious Nepalese teas to our catalogue. No one can provide a better description of this tea than Jeni Dodd who has sourced this one for us. Below you will read her words because they are perfect!

One sip of Shangri-la Gold black tea and you are suddenly transported to the lovely place that created this tea – to a garden of flowers surrounded by the highest snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas (and the world). Shangri-la Gold is grown and produced in a place that can only be described heaven on earth. The tea plants are nourished by the pure water from the Himalayas and grown free from pesticides by small farmers that own their own land. Knowing that better leaf from the farmers allows for premium finished tea, the process facility owner works in concert, as a partner, with the farmers, paying for their organic training, required log-keeping and certification.

Origin: Ilam, Nepal

Flavour profile: RICH | CACAO | ROSE

Processing highlights: plucked late October and processed the first few days of November. Withering in troughs up to 36 hours, followed by rolling that enables the enzymes to start oxidising with the pure Himalayan air until the tea master using not only scientific data but his nose, his hands, his artistry determines it is the perfect moment to dry the tea.

Harvest: October 2022

Tea Master: sourced by Jeni Dodd Tea

At only 5,000 feet this Ilam tea garden is considered to be only on a hill in Nepal. The tea plants are nourished by the pure water from the Himalayas and grown free from pesticides by small farmers that own their own land.

Elevation: 1,500m

As a personal favourite to our good friend Jeni Dodd who sources our beautiful Nepalese teas these are her tasting notes:

“Shangri-la Gold is a rich, luscious tea with some cacao notes and a surprise wisp of rose. Enjoying a cup of Shangri-la Gold not only satisfies your senses but also your heart”.

Leaf appearance: Full of golden tipped buds covered with a coat of feathery down.

Aroma: An intense and sweet fragrance reminiscent of chocolate and roasted nuts

Liquor colour: Brilliant orange-red colour with a lustrous golden rim
