2018 Japan tea study tour

By Kym Cooper. Posted

I can't quite put my finger on why but 2018 has been an incredible year for The Steepery Tea Co. We are moving into our third year of being in the tea business, continuing to learn and evolve, and feel that this year has been pivotal in so many ways. Without a doubt, the highlight was being awarded the opportunity to participate in the 2018 Japanese Tea Export Council (JTEC) tea study tour to Japan visiting Shizouka and Kagoshima prefectures. Today I wanted to share some images and highlights. And if you are interested I might follow up with some subsequent posts about Japan. I have...

Our Nepalese tea sourcing partnership with Jeni Dodd

By Kym Cooper. Posted | 1 comment

After seeing the potential in Nepalese teas a couple of years ago they have been on The Steepery Tea Co's wishlist as a region to introduce to my customers. I feel exceptionally fortunate to have met Jeni Dodd from Jeni Dodd Tea in 2018 when she visited Australia. I cannot tell you how excited I am to introduce a selection of Nepalese black and white teas that gives you some insight and set a benchmark for this incredible tea growing region.  It was while I was sitting as an attendee of the 2018 Australian Tea Cultural Seminar listening to Jeni deliver an engaging and...

Introducing our Taiwanese tea sourcing partner ~ Tania Stacey

By Kym Cooper. Posted

I was fortunate to connect with Tania Stacey in 2017 at an Australian tea event. Tania Stacey is the owner of Cuppa Cha and producer of Cuppa Cha's TEA channel (a tea resource focused on providing a free educational resource for tea professionals). She also has a solid reputation as 'the' Taiwanese tea specialist in the Australian market.  I was a little uncertain whether Tania would be interested in working with me as a sourcing partner. So many small tea businesses are coming and going at the moment and I feel in awe of those that have tenure and experience, particularly in the...

I have been wanting to write this blog post for some time and as I am in Japan on a tea study tour it seems timely to share our thoughts as we hope to make some new sourcing connections.   Tea sourcing has been an interesting journey and one we have fixated on since opening our online doors in 2015. Our core focus is getting better at the business of sourcing tea for our customers. We spend hours of time into searching, networking, cupping, connecting and maintaining relationships in tea.  The business of tea sourcing is very much relationship based built over...

Jin Jun Mei Honey: the 2018 Grand Champion Tea of Hobart's Royal Agricultural Show Fine Food Awards

By Kym Cooper. Posted

What an honour to receive a phone call last Sunday (29/7) that one of our favourite black Chinese teas had been given a very deserving honour of being named the 2018 Grand Champion tea at Hobart's Royal Agricultural Show Fine Food Awards. At The Steepery Tea Co. our main objective is to source and curate a selection of pure leaf teas ('true teas') from various growing regions across the world to showcase the diversity of the leaf and the tea makers craft in producing exceptional tea. Searching for tea and continually cupping samples is where we dedicate a significant amount...
